YouTube Safety Setting: A First Step to Protecting Kids

There are many ways kids can be exposed to inappropriate and offensive material on the internet but you can greatly decrease the quantity and frequency by becoming as involved in their virtual world as you are in their real one.

An easy place to start is YouTube.Screen shot 2015-06-09 at 9.51.19 PM

Before handing your child your Ipad or SmartPhone to let them look up those cute cat videos they heard about at school, be sure to set the Safety Setting to ON.  While not foolproof, it will certainly decrease the likelihood that inappropriate or offensive material will appear as an option for your child to view.

Scroll down to the bottom of the window until you see the word “Safety” and click it until it says “ON.”

Be sure to lock the mode so that tech-savvy kids can’t turn the Safety off and on.
